Dark nights in Dubai
The Hedge exists before (and possibly after) the Abyss. The True Fae had a contract with the Oracle of the Lunargent Thorn. They were promised as souls and servants. Either the Oracle thought it was a safe promise with the Abyss between Arcadia and humanity, or he sold us out. No matter the intent, the outcome was the same. In order to play out their stories, the Fae had to get down. The Abyss wasn’t much of a hurdle, they just went around/before it. The Abyss doesn’t exist in the same universe the Hedge does. There is simply no interaction between the two. For this reason, no abyssal being can enter the abyss. If they enter a gate they just end up what should be on the other side, rather than what would be there. Mages reek of the Abyss and are similarly unable to enter the Hedge. Even their short trip during the Awakening bars them from the Hedge.
Prometheans, on the other hand, are completely ignored by the Hedge and its inhabitants. The Divine Fire has no contract with Arcadia and thus isn’t recognized. This underlines the otherness of the Qashmallim and the Empyrean. To Supernal, they don’t exist. Even the Underworld has a contract with Arcadia (The Hedge even sports a few Avernian Gates).
Cataloguing the myriad species of the Hedge would be madness, so for sanity’s sake the non-sentient inhabitants of the hedge are called hedge beasts, while those possessing at least a base amount sentience are hobgoblins.
